Uriah Heep - Dreamer / Seven Stars / Sunrise / Pilgrim / Gypsy / Easy Livin' / Salisbury / The Magicians Birthday

My two favorite Uriah Heep albums are Sweet Freedom (1973) and The Magicians Birthday (1972). You should download both of those albums in their entirety. The combo of Ken Hensley (keyboards), Mick Box (guitar) and David Byron (vocals) was killer during the early 1970's.

However, Byron's drinking problem destroyed this band after the Sweet Freedom album and the band was never the same afterwards. Byron was sacked from the band in 1976, without any public explanation. At the time, I was shocked that Uriah Heep would actually dump one of the beat rock vocalists of the time, and for decades I always wondered why it happened. Well, a few months ago I finally found out why it happened. Byron was an impossible drunkard..........

According to Wikipedia "Byron died of alcohol related complications, including liver disease and seizures, at his home in Maidenhead, Berkshire, on Thursday, 28 February 1985. He was 38 years old. His death was barely reported in the music press".
